Spring is always a busy time preparing cars for the summer ahead. This year has turned out to be more of a chore than normal with everywhere booked up, not returning calls or cancelling appointments at the last minute. Taking to the network of fellow owners on social media elicited no assistance either with many specialists short on technicians and loathed to add more work to their overstretched schedules.
The road trip schedule as a result has taken a significant hit with a proposed trip to Technoclassica, track tay in Abbeville and chasing the Peter Auto classic rally from Paris to Biarritz not happening. Local events mostly sold out some time ago meaning we have only managed two outings in the last month.
911UK’s wednesday evening meet kicked off this month at the Fairmile Pub and Restaurant. The drive over is always a bit of a hit or miss requiring us to hack through evening rush hour partly on the M25 and then off through the back roads of Cobham to the venue. Swinging in through the gate we were met by a phalanx of 991 GT3RS’s which grew in number as the evening progressed with a Touring variant and a few 992 versions arriving later. The effect was a neat arrangement akin to a spilled bag of Skittles making a welcome respite from the usual never ending sea of black/ silver/ grey cars at these events. It was the first opportunity to see Guy’s (@askgeez on instagram) stunning Voodoo Blue GT3RS parked next to a Shark Blue and Lava Orange versions. It was a good reference for a project I am working on currently playing with the PTS colour palette.
Our next trip was to the Stuttgart South’s event Anglesea Arms near Chichester. The run from home down towards Goodwood is an excellent mix of A roads including a bit of dual carriage way. This is what the C4S is made for and the romp through the avenues of trees, across the South Downs and through stunning stone villages means that parking up the crackling from the cooling engine and brakes continues for quite some time after arrival.
Basking in the sun was a fine selection of Porsches from 924 complete with Pasha upholstery all the way up to 992 GT3RS, the later we followed for some distance on the journey homes. No heroic clipping of apexes though as by that point the churches had tipped out and the roads were populated with locals heading to the garden centres for a fill of tulips.
May sees us heading for the Arctic circle, probably as far as the Tromso before heading back down to meet the 9Werks crew at Geiranger for the annual Porsche Club Norway meet. The current plan is to take the C4S and 928 driving and ferrying our way up to the north of Norway and back down the GeirangerFjord for a few days and then back home. It is a trip we have wanted to do for decades and will be our first real outing taking two of the four Porsches on a long trip. With any luck the insanely wet weather will abate for a week or two.
